Lama-Trekking

Guests can get a touch of the South American Andes feeling in Montafon. Trekking tours with llamas carrying the rucksacks and other equipment are undertaken in Montafon by the successful llama breeder Horst Kuster. Five young males are used. They can carry up to 30 kilograms, using old Inca loading techniques.

What many people do not know is that llamas are tylopods, which means that they are sure- footed in difficult terrain; they are the best animals to use in the circumstances. Llamas, known to be sensitive, clean and easy to handle, are particularly suited to tourist trekking, according to Horst Kuster. Six different tours are available in the area around Bartholomäberg and Silbertal. Horst Kuster personally accompanies the trekking tours, and provides information about the landscape, the inhabitants, their customs and traditions.
